Scientists Identify Neurons that Restore Walking After Paralysis

Posted on November 10th, 2022

A new study by scientists at the .NeuroRestore research center has identified the type of neuron that is activated and remodeled by spinal cord stimulation, allowing patients to stand up, walk and rebuild their muscles – thus improving their quality of life. This discovery, made in nine patients, marks a fundamental, clinical breakthrough. The study was published today in Nature.

Research Brings Hope for Spinal Cord Injury Treatment

Posted on May 21st, 2022

Birmingham scientists have shown an existing drug may reduce damage after spinal cord injury, by blocking the inflammatory response in the spinal cord.

Their research, published today in Clinical and Translational Medicine, demonstrates that AZD1236, a drug developed by AstraZeneca, can significantly reduce ‘secondary damage’ caused by the body’s response to spinal cord injury (SCI).

Neuroplast Announces Successful Clinical Phase I Trial with Neuro-Cells Stem Cell Treatment for Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury

Posted on November 11th, 2021

Dutch biotech company, Neuroplast, and the Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos de Toledo in Spain have announced positive clinical Phase I results after analysis of ten patients suffering from traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI), with data demonstrating that its investigational stem cell treatment, Neuro-Cells, appears to be safe and well tolerated, without product-related adverse events.

The treatment uses the patient’s own stem cells to prevent further loss of function after sustaining TSCI, in an effort to limit loss of mobility and independence of otherwise life-long impairment.
